CaptureSlate documentation

Guide

A task-oriented guide to capturing, reviewing, and saving media with the features your browser or Windows app supports.

Getting started

Choose a capture mode, connect sources, review Preflight, record, then save every artifact you want to keep. Local capture does not require sign-in.

Choose what to capture

Capture a camera, screen, screen with camera, presenter composition, or Photo / Screenshot.

Quality and recording format

Choose Auto, WebM, or MP4. Auto probes local support; an unavailable explicit format does not silently fall back.

Review and edit

Review locally and create supported trim or rotation derivatives while keeping the original unchanged.

Import a video

Open a selected local video in Review without changing the source file. Playback and editing support depend on its container and codecs.

Transcript and captions

Choose Off, on-device English-only Local processing, or optional signed-in Enhanced processing. Export TXT, Markdown, SRT, or WebVTT sidecars.

Reduce file size

Create a local derivative with Light, Balanced, or Maximum compression and Auto, MP4, or WebM output. Estimates are not guarantees.

Platform limitations

Screen capture, shared audio, effects, codecs, transcription performance, and save destinations vary by platform capability.
